NIGERIA A-29 SUPER TUCANOS TO BE BASED AT KAINJI IN NIGER STATE
Nigerian Air Force A-29 Super Tucanos look set to be based at Kainji in the west of the country, according to a notice posted on the U.S. Federal Business Opportunities website. The news comes as the Nigerian Air Force says it expects 18 new aircraft to be inducted into service in 2020, including 12 A-29s.
Solicitations are expected to be announced in January 2020, and Design-Bid-Build contracts with a combined value between $25 million and $100 million could be issued. Kainji, around 100 km (60 miles) from the border with Benin, is currently home to the 407 Air Combat Training Group. The “Operations Package” includes the renovation of an existing aircraft hangar and air traffic control tower, configuration of a new simulator training room, and renovation of an aircraft parking apron.

Nigerian soldiers manning a checkpoint in Adamawa State have intercepted six mine resistance vehicles that seemed to have been transported into Nigeria without due process. The latest seizure of six mine-resistance all-terrain vehicles (MATV) came three months after a Nigerian politician, Ibikunle Amosun, handed over weapons he had illegally stockpiled for several years to the police.
Mr. Amosun kept the weapons for several years at Government House, Abeokuta, until his last day in office when he realised he would no longer enjoy immunity from arrest and prosecution.

Nigerian defence company PROFORCE has signed a contract for the sale of 20 of its new Ara 2 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles. The company did not wish to disclose the name of the customer, only acknowledging that the purchase was made by an African country. Chadian interest in the Ara 2 was reportedly prompted when Chadian President Idriss Déby observed Nigerian Police Proforce PF2 armoured vehicles in Abuja during a visit last year.

THE EZUGWU (MOUNTAIN) ARMORED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN DELIVERED TO NIGERIAN ARMY
The armored car Ezugwu (Mountain) 4X4 was developed by the Nigerian state corporation Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). The car was named in honor of Major General Victor Ezugwu, known for his efforts in the fight against the banned extremist organization Boko Haram.

This armored car, stated that its height is 2 meters 63 cm. It is equipped with a diesel engine with 615 horsepower (according to other sources a Chinese-made turbocharged WD615 diesel engine with Chinese power), which allows transportation from 380 to 12 landing personnel (not specified, with or without a crew). It has two turrets rotating at 16 degrees with an installed 360-mm DShK machine gun and an 12,7-mm machine gun. The armored car is equipped with thermal imagers and a system of all-round cameras.

COVID-19: CHINESE FIRM DONATES MATERIALS TO NIGERIA MILITARY TO HELP CURB SPREAD
The Chief of Defence Training and Operations, Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, received the items on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Gabriel Olonisakin on Monday(2020. 3. 30) at the Defence Headquarters. While donating the items, the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Liu Lung, said the donation was part of the company’s effort to assist Nigeria to defeat the scourge of COVID-19.
Mr. Lung said thier board instructed us immediately to procure 150,000 protective materials including face mask, hand gloves, glasses, protecting seals and other materials for donation to Nigeria. Luckily, the first 50,000 has arrived and so among the immediate donation we arranged part of them for defence. We are glad to be here to hand over the materials to our brothers, he said.

가. NIGERIAN NAVY OUTLINES PROCUREMENT PLAN
The Nigerian Navy will receive new patrol boats from the French shipyard Ocea, Damen’s shipyard in Vietnam, and Malaysia’s Suncraft in 2020, Rear Admiral Beegroy Ibe-Enwo, head of policy and plans explained.
Ocea is building a 60 m hydrographic survey ship, two 35 m fast patrol boats, a 24 m fast patrol boat, and four 17 m C-Falcon interceptors for the Nigerian Navy, which already has 7 of the company’s 24 m FPB 72 Mk II patrol boats, two larger 35 m FPB 110 Mk IIs, and a 35 m FPB 98. The Ocea is building two more FPB 110s, an FPB 71, an OSV 160 survey ship, and four C-Falcon interceptors for Nigeria.

나. NIGERIAN AIR FORCE receives two AW109 Helicopters
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on 18 January, 2020 that it has received two new Leonardo AW109 helicopters. The helicopters are part of an order for six that was announced in 2018, with a first batch of two arriving in April 2019. The NAF said the helicopters were airfreighted to Abuja from Italy on 15 January aboard a Boeing 747-400 cargo aircraft with an assortment of spares and support equipment. They are currently undergoing assembly with support from Leonardo technicians.

다. NAVY, FIRM RESCUE CHINESE CARGO SHIP FROM PIRATES
A combined team of the Nigerian Navy and Ocean Marine Solution Limited rescued a Chinese cargo ship from pirate attack off the Gulf of Guinea, reports have confirmed. According to FleetMon Explorer, an international news agency, a general cargo ship ‘Huanghai Glory,’ which left the Lekki Port, east of Lagos Nigeria on Thursday March 5, was attacked and boarded by pirates some 85 nautical miles south of Lagos. The ship and its 23 crew members (all Chinese), were under siege for about 24 hours before the rescue.

라. COVID-19: NIGERIAN MILITARY TO RECALL RETIRED MEDICAL PERSONNEL – DHQ
The Defence Headquarters has concluded plans to recall its retired medical personnel back on active duty to help deal with the response to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the preparedness of the military to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has developed a “Two-Pronged” approach to fight the pandemic, namely; the medical and security approaches.

With the current outbreak of COVID-19 which has put Nigeria into a standstill in terms of receiving revenues and cutting budget drastically as Governments across the globe are pouring increasing stimulus packages into their economies to minimise the adverse impact of the coronavirus pandemic including Nigeria using its military techniques to engage all in this fight against this pandemic. Private Sector Relief Fund Nets N15.325bn ($50 million) as Cases Hit 174 in Nigeria as at today 2ndApril,2020.

The Minister of Finance already announced that there will be cuts to non-critical capital expenditure although government has not stated on any indication concerning reduction of the military budget since it is a critical part of the government concerning life and property.

The Oil price in the foreign market has fallen drastically which is a major source of funding the Nigeria budget since 1960. As a result of the shortage in foreign exchange earnings, the CBN has "devalued" the naira from an official rate of ₦307 to ₦360 per dollar. The dollar exchange rate for foreign investors was also changed from ₦360 to ₦380.

Our suggestion remains

KOTRA Lagos still state that when KODAS 2020 will hold top state and federal officials should be the main targets of invitation.

Private sourcing in Nigeria still remains relevant in searching for good buyers.

Work in Partnership with government procurement companies that deal in either manufacturing of military equipment or products (e.g. DICON) along with local manufacturing companies (KOTRA Lagos is ready to provide when requested by Korean companies in thus sector.

Create back incentives measures to lure top regional military outfit like Amotekun, the South East, and the various top security outfit in Nigeria etc.
