NAF MANUFACTURES MISSILE HEAT SHIELDS, MAINTAINS ITS AIRCRAFTS –CAS
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has said that the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) now manufactures missile heat shields, hydraulic accumulator diaphragm and maintains its aircrafts locally. He said that the breakthroughs were made possible through continuous and painstaking research and development. The service has undertaken various initiatives singly and in conjunction with credible partners and these have already yielded positive outcomes.
For example, the Service now produces a better version of the hydraulic accumulator diaphragms for its Mi-35 helicopter and L-39 aircraft fleet.

The Nigerian Air Force has said it is set to induct the second batch of two new Agusta Westland 109 Power Attack Helicopters procured by the Federal Government as part of the fleet enhancement efforts to enable more effective and efficient employment of air power to tackle the security challenges facing the Nation.
Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, said the two helicopters, along with associated equipment and spares, arrived Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja on board a Boeing 737-400 Cargolux Airline aircraft from Malpensa International Airport in Italy on 15 January 2020.

The Nigerian Air Force has launched their second Bell 412 helicopter into service. The aircraft had been impounded by customs, after Nigeria could not provide end user certificates after the aircraft had modifications done to it in America. It received an overhaul and repair in the United States as well as in Canada.

CHINA HAS DELIVERED ITS LATEST MILITARY EQUIPMENT TO NIGERIA
The first batch of heavy military equipment was delivered by China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) to Nigeria. It is reported that a batch of 17 combat vehicles, consisting of VT-4 main battle tanks, an ST-1 wheeled tank and two types of self-propelled howitzers, was purchased by the Nigeria army. The cargo was delivered to the port of Apapa (Lagos) on April 8, 2020.
The Nigerian army made an emergency purchase of heavy weapons to strike at the terrorists Boko Haram (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) in northern Nigeria. With a $152m contract on the table, the Chinese government, it was learnt was made to guarantee the quality and timely delivery of the armaments, which are mostly intended for use in the North-east to boost the ongoing war against insurgency.
Lieutenant General Lamidi Adesun, head of the Nigeria Army policy and planning department, said Nigeria and NORINCO signed a package deal in 2019. Nigeria has become the first country in the region to own modern tanks and it is fully prepared to use and maintain such types of weapons. Nigerian soldiers who will control the tanks.
It was gathered that China won the bid for the military equipment following its flexible maintenance policies and durability of the equipment it had supplied the country including warships built for the Nigerian Navy (NN).
